More than half of the residents of Miskolc’s Numbered streets, around 500 people, most of them Roma, have fled from persecution by the Hungarian authorities. They have fled to shanties surrounding the city or to Canada. The number of people granted refugee status in Canada rose sharply in 2015, most likely due to forced evictions in Hungary. Meanwhile, unidentified authorities at European airports often inhibit Hungarian relatives wishing to visit their family from boarding planes bound to Canada. The treatment of vulnerable groups has been so dismal in Hungary throughout the past couple of years that no refugees are sent here from the rest of Europe, due to humanitarian reasons. A miskolci Számozott utcákról a lakosság több, mint fele, közel öt- száz ember, többségében romák, a távoli Kanadában, vagy a közeli erdős terület viskóiban keresnek menedéket a magyar hatóságok jogsértései elől. A Kanadában menekültstátuszt kapott emberek száma 2015-ben a magyarországi kényszerkilakoltatások miatt is jelentősen megnőtt. Történik mindez annak ellenére, hogy Európa repterein beazonosíthatatlan hivatalnokok rendre meggátolják a Magyarországról rokonlátogatásra indulókat a Kanadába tartó gépekre való feljutásban. Az elmúlt években Magyarországon a kiszolgáltatott helyzetben lévő emberekkel való bánásmód oly mértékben eldurvult, hogy Európából humanitárius okokból egyetlen menekültet sem küldenek ide.
